Remote Control Table Fan
As the warmer weather arrives it is often convenient to use a remote control table fan in rooms where there is no permanent fixed ceiling fan or other means of lowering the temperature.
Properly circulating, cool, fresh air is so invigorating. There is nothing more distracting or uncomfortable than being hot and sweaty without the means to cool yourself down, so I went in search of the ideal device.
Firstly, it must be portable so that I could easily move and use it on any level surface, anywhere in the house. It would have to be capable of chilling and freshening the whole room as well as providing direct personal air flow. I also wanted to be able to control it remotely without having to jump up and fiddle with the unit. Ideally, it would have a quiet mode so that it could be used in the bedroom and not disturb getting to sleep.
I found that there are fundamentally two types of operation. There are the more traditional models with rotating blades, enclosed inside a protective cage, that generate cool air from the pitch and speed of the vanes. Due to recent innovation, there are now models where a strong airstream is generated without visible turning parts. The bladeless versions will provide a safer environment for small children and pets.
To deliver wider cooling, the air is circulated by changing the direction of the stream of air. This is usually achieved by the oscillation of some part of the appliance. With the conventional styles, this is generally by movement of the head of the unit. The more contemporary versions achieve the same result with more subtle, but equally effective, changes to the airflow.
Modern technology also enables control of the machine by means of a separate hand held device.
